m. ( fr. bhartṛ ) lord, my lord ( also pl. and -pāda, m. pl.

according to cf. Daśar. ii, 64, a title of respect used by humble persons addressing a prince

but also affixed or prefixed to the names of learned Brāhmans, e.g. kedāra-, govinda-bh° etc., or bhaṭṭa-kedāra etc., below, the proper name being sometimes omitted, e.g. bhaṭṭa = kumārila-bh°

also any learned man = doctor or philosopher ) cf. Rājat. cf. Vet. etc.

N. of a partic. mixed caste of hereditary panegyrists, a bard, encomiast cf. L.
