gambhīrá [ gambhIra ]


mfn. = gabh°, RV. ( only in the beginning of Pādas, six times ), AV. etc. ( in post-Vedic writings gambh° is more used than gabh° ; the deepness of a man's navel, voice, and character are praised together, VarBṛS. lxviii, 85 ; hence a person who is said to have a deep navel, voice, and character is called tri-g°, mf ( ā ) n., MBh. iv, 254 : v, 3939 )
